Newcastle and the Hunter have been battered by a massive storm front, which hit in the early hours of Tuesday morning and only finally letting up on Wednesday afternoon. Powerful images were shown across numerous news channels of houses ripped from foundations and floating away in Dungog, huge flash floods across the Maitland and Cessnock areas and massive hundred-year-old trees falling in Newcastle. It was a truly scary 48 hours here in Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Port Stephens and the Hunter.
After a great discussion in our office about the wild weather over the weekend our Buyer’s Agent Dale Slater, who has extensive experience in building renovations, mentioned he would advise anyone who are in the process of purchasing property to get another building inspection done immediately.
Dale said “after these huge storms it is always better to get your building inspector back to establish whether anything in the report has changed due to the storm”. He also mentioned, “Particularly recheck roofing and guttering, water damage, evidence of flooding and water ingress. If any damage is left unattended it could cause major problems in the future rather than being repaired or attended to right now”. It’s a little peace of mind for you during an already stressful process of purchasing property.
Our thoughts are with everyone this huge storm has affected, some properties as we write this blog post still have not had their power switched back on. Huge thanks must go out to all the SES and Emergency Services personnel for their super human efforts.
