As experts on where to buy in the local communities across Newcastle and the Hunter Valley and as people who live, work and play in the area, we’re passionate supporters of local causes.
We are proactive in giving back to and raising awareness of community services which are giving back to those in need or lifting up the region we love. We’re particularly passionate about supporting local sporting initiatives and have been leaders in the space of building up the profile of women in sport.
Here are just some of the causes we’ve supported recently. Follow us on Facebook or Instagram for regular updates on our community based activities.
One of our major successes was a corporate team-based event conducted monthly which saw local businesses battle it out in a range of challenges. From challenging one another in sports such as surfing and basketball, to seeing which local business operated best on a complex flatpack furniture build, we’ve seen businesses thrive under pressure, all for a good cause.
After every competition, the losing team donated $200 to a charity of their choice. Throughout the time we’ve been running the PS101 Challenge, we have supported the below charities, who have shared in over $3,000 in donations:
We’ve regularly hosted a Female Athlete Education Evening to bring young people together with local female athletes to share insights on their career and inspiration to help others follow in their footsteps. The events have been a huge success in helping young students realise their potential in sport and have more solid foundations regarding how to achieve their goals.
Kylie was a co-founder of local initiative, Sporting Chance Collective. The Hunter-based business was created to empower women to make a second income whilst achieving the extraordinary things they do as professional sportspeople. Unfortunately, women face numerous challenges when it comes to professional sport. Sporting Chance Collective was designed to help reduce the barrier of income and provide a flexible way to earn money during times of heavy training and performance demands.
We had so much fun with the PS101 Challenge that we decided to take it to the next level! With the help of our friends at Newy Burger Co., we organised a burger eating contest! With the participation of over 20 local businesses, this was – by far – the most participation we have had for a fundraising event yet! We managed to raise just under $6,000 for Charlie’s Run 4 Kids.
As part of our commitment to helping the next generation of female sports stars, we were the major sponsors of the Hunter Academy of Sports AFL Women’s Program for 2018.
Beyond helping local organisations we believe in, we’re also passionate about doing what we can to support our local athletes. Young local swimmer, Chelsea, wakes up at 4:30am every morning to train. We found this very impressive, and her dedication inspired us to sponsor her as she competed in the State Age Swimming Championships.
Another local elite athlete and star of Giants Netball, Sam Poolman also impressed us. When we learnt of her efforts in coaching netball clinics, we couldn’t resist sponsoring someone so excited to give back to the Hunter community. We found her passion to pass on her skills to the next generation very worthy of our help!
The youngsters who make up the two Kahibah Football Club teams give it their all and we decided they deserved a helping hand. Our sponsorship of the boys and girls will ensure that the next generation of soccer stars have access to the equipment and uniforms they need.
We want to make sure our help reaches far and wide – not to just small groups like the football club, but an extension to even the more corporate world. Since its establishment, we have been proud supporters of the Surfest Crowdfunding initiative for the Women’s Pro.
The Evolution Cup is a corporate tag-team style surfing event, with 20 teams made up of employees or business connections of registered companies plus one wild card surfer. We were proud to entera team into the event, including both our staff and business associates.
The purpose of this event was to raise funds locally based charity, the Mark Hughes Foundation (MHF). MHF was set up by Mark and Kirralee Hughes following Marks diagnosis with Brain Cancer in 2013. Mark is a well-known and highly respected former Newcastle Knights Rugby League player, business and community identity who underwent treatment to fight brain cancer.
MHF raises much needed funds to fund brain cancer research, heighten awareness and support brain cancer patients and their families within the community.
One event we’ve had a lot of fun being involved in and have seen the impact is the Lake Macquarie Speedboating Crowdfunding initiative. We proudly were involved to help make the event possible.
Over the years we have been pleased to support the Foundation by providing donations and support for specific fundraising events.
Beyond our support of large events, we’re passionate sponsors of local teams and provide donations to local causes.
Whether they be prizes for raffles or monetary donations to help others make an impact in the community.
