Can you believe we’ve got people in our team who are skilled enough to be participating in Surfest?!
Ok, well that might be overstating it slightly … we’ve put together a team for the Evolution Cup, one of the events that will run during the Surfest event period.
It is a corporate tag-team style surfing event, with 20 teams made up of employees or business connections of registered companies plus one wild card surfer.
Our team is made up of two of our Buyer’s Agents, Dale Slater and Jason Mitchell, along with our business associates, Wayne Dive from Smartline and Chad Wolfenden from C&C Wolfenden Plumbing.
We think it’s worth a donation just to see our team participate in this event!

The purpose of this event is to raise funds locally based charity, The Mark Hughes Foundation (MHF).
You’d all know the story – MHF was set up by Mark and Kirralee Hughes following Marks diagnosis with Brain Cancer in 2013. Mark is a well-known and highly respected former Newcastle Knights Rugby League player, business and community identity who underwent treatment to fight brain cancer.
MHF raises much needed funds to fund brain cancer research, heighten awareness and support brain cancer patients and their families within the community.
We think it’s great that Evolution Advisers has put together this great event and we’re thrilled to be involved!
They have a lofty goal of raising $100,000 – so it will really need all the businesses in the region to get involved. So if you haven’t entered a team, a great way for you to get involved is to DONATE HERE.
About Jason Mitchell
Jason is going out on a limb for this event and investigating whether his mad mountain biking skills will transfer to surfing!
He’s been a musician all of his life, toured Australia and parts of the world until moving back to Newcastle in 2016 and has worked for Property Solutions 101 since then. Jason’s always loved the beach and when time permits he hits the sand for a camping trip and takes the board for a refresher on surfing life.
As a Buyer’s Agent, Jason gets a kick out of unearthing amazing properties to fit the brief of his clients. If he can’t find it, it probably doesn’t exist!
About Dale Slater
Dale is a born and bred Novocastrian and has surfed all his life. BUT! In the last few years he has gone to the ‘dark side’ and now gets his water fix through stand up paddle board, kitesurf and wake surf instead.
Dale will be dusting the cobwebs of his surfboards and coming out of surfing retirement for the event. So he might be a bit rusty, to say the least!
With a love for Newcastle, Dale has combined that with his knowledge of the local area and become a well-known Buyer’s Agent. His approach is to get to know his clients and find the best solution to suit their goals and ambitions.
About Wayne Dive
Wayne is a young man in an older man’s body (his words, not ours!) He often has ‘board meetings’ and enjoys a great work/life balance.
His home beach is Maroubra and he has been surfing competitively on longboards for the past six years and loves travelling to remote surfing destinations.
A mortgage broker for the past 15 years, Wayne is a specialist in residential home and Investment loans.
Often his friends ask if he has retired – but it’s just that his business allows him to work flexible hours so her can see clients at a time that suits them. Clients appreciate that he is available after business hours, but Wayne’s response – ‘You cannot surf in the dark so happy to surf whilst most others are at work.”
About Chad Wolfenden
At the age of 35 and the demands of running a plumbing business and with a family of three young kids, Chad has found that his surfing time has reduced dramatically over the last nine years.
Chad has been plumbing for 18 years total and has been in business for around 10 years.
He loves to get away with the family whenever he can and go up to Pacific Palms where they have an on-site van and spend a lot of time at the beach.
